Poems by Marcellus Leonard

Praise For “Thunder”

“UIS Professor Marcellus Leonard offers a hypnotic and sensual poetic line . . .. Breath and body are lured to experience every sensuous stanza.  Even when the poems are read silently, one feels a sense of harmonious induction into mystery, poetic reflection, cultural Brotherhood . . . and global-politico tragedy. . . .

[Marcellus’ verse] is precisely crafted lyric that astounds with graceful, though dangerously exotic diction.”
Dr. Eugene Wiley

“Poetry is best when it shows us some truth about ourselves or about the world in which we live.  Marcellus Leonard has a very lyrical and persuasive way of showing such truths in his poetry.  He persuades in the subtle way that clarified truth persuades—with the most unselfconscious of verse that seems to abandon artifice for the sake of clear expression but in so doing reaches a height of eloquence undeniable for it poignancy. . . .

His poems verbally realize the sway of Mona Said’s hips, and captivate the reader with the music echoed down through millennia from the cradle of life and origin of the Nile. . . .”
